Training Course Outline | Liddleworks

Social Media Course Objectives:

In this customized introductory to intermediate course, students will learn the conceptual framework and practices associated with social media marketing for small businesses and Entrepreneurs. They will also get hands-on experience with digital forms of engagement and will learn how to use a wide range of social media tools. In particular, this course will examine how the internet offers today’s businesses the tools to help them operate and grown in a competitive market. This course will also demonstrate how the internet can be used as a tool to help businesses achieve its objectives.

Social Media Learning Outcomes:

After completion of this class, students will have the necessary knowledge and skillsets required to launch an effective digital engagement campaign across multiple Internet based platforms. They will learn how to develop and implement a goal-based social media strategy, create a digital presence in an HTML5 environment that capitalizes on SEO and Keyword strategies for the Internet, and ultimately how to create and implement a meaningful online presence. Additionally, students will understand how to create and maintain a blog, how to organize a content calendar and find and create images and small screen video.* They will be able to use best practices in distribution methods using multiple channels, while understanding how to and create and engage a participatory community that drives traffic to their website, e-commerce sites, landing pages and events. Finally, students will understand how to assess their efforts by viewing basic analytic platforms and responding to the results.

Social Media Assessment Methods:

Following each session, the student is expected to implement the material covered in the Learning Module. These assignments are then assessed by referencing data from online analytics tools, measuring the results from the assignments and comparing them to industry standards. Students are then provided with rigorous feedback to ensure understanding of the course material and equip them with better practices for social media.

Social Media Course Components:

The course components are comprised of a number of Learning Modules, enhanced by Review Sessions and homework. Students will receive handouts for each Learning Module and be added to the Private Liddleworks Training Facebook Group for ongoing support between sessions. Students need access to a computer, smart phone and wifi.

Social Media Training Course Requirements:

There are no prerequisites for this course. This course is suitable for beginners, intermediate and advanced learners because we assess the level of the student and gear the learning modules to the next level. Trainees will require a computer and / or tablet / and / or smart phone, Google account (which we will help set up), good internet connection, and Skype or Google Hangout if we are supporting the client with any remote training.

Social Media Training Course Schedule & Duration:

Each module is an individualized one-hour session. This course is offered with a duration of either 12 weeks or 24 weeks (see details below).

Trainings are held every 1-2 weeks (depending on program length) at the Liddleworks Indie Media home office, unless otherwise arranged with the client.

Total hours:

12 week with Manager/Social Media Manager & Team

  • Introduction to Social Media Training: 1 hour
  • 8 Learning Modules x 1 hour: 8 hours
  • Team Leveraging Session for 3 – 8 people: 2 hours

Total hours = 11 hours

12 week with Solopreneur

  • Introduction to Social Media Training: 1 hour
  • 8 Learning Modules x 1 hour: 8 hours
  • Team Leveraging Session (the Solopreneur’s Network) for 1 – 8 people: 2 hours

Total hours = 11 hours

24 week with Manager/Social Media Manager & Team

  • Introduction to Social Media Training: 1 hours
  • 16 Learning Modules x 1 hour: 16 hours
  • Team Leveraging Session for 3 – 8 people: 2 hours

Total Hours = 19 hours

24 week with solopreneur

  • Introduction to Social Media Training: 1 hour
  • 16 Learning Modules x 1 hour: 16 hours
  • Team Leveraging Session (the Solopreneur’s Network) for 1 – 8 people: 2 hours

Total Hours = 19 hours

Social Media Training Cost:

The cost of the 12-week program is $2,570 plus GST, while the cost of the 24-week program is $4,285 plus GST.

Social Media Training Instructor:

Rina Liddle has taught a variety of social media, communication and critical theory courses at Emily Carr University, University Canada West and Brighton College since 2009. She has an MA in Photography and Urban Culture from Goldsmiths College, University of London, England and a BFA in General Visual Arts from Emily Carr University. Rina leads a team of 5 contractors and one employee at Liddleworks Indie Media and has helped over 60 clients obtain their business and organizational objectives through training and social media management. She has a passion for visual art and has shown her installation works – many of them utilizing digital and social media components – worldwide, most notably receiving a grant for the work “We Are Watching”, a commission from the City of Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Her research interests include: participatory practice; identity politics; online performance, especially online gender performance. Rina believes in supporting local communities, eco and social justice and the slow food movement.
