3 simple things you can do to promote organizations you support on Facebook

I gave a 10 minute talk to the Grand Fortune City BNI group yesterday. It’s not much time to introduce complex strategy, but the aim was to have the members help promote their networking group through social media channels that they are already on. This is the Facebook part of the talk. This is an excerpt from my workshop Leverage Your Team on Social Media that can be purchased on its own, or as part of my 12 and 24 Week Social Media Training.

  • Like the Facebook Page.
  • Sometimes it’s difficult to find their Page in the Facebook search bar. An easy tip is to look for their Facebook icon on their website.
  • Organize to see all their posts

Especially if you don’t interact with that organizations content regularly, it will fall off your Timeline. You can choose settings to get notifications when a Page makes a post. Follow these steps:

Now you will receive notifications for the Page of the organization you would like to support.

Engage with the content:

Liking, commenting, sharing and tagging content will help the organization you support will help their Facebook Page algorithm and make sure that content is seen by people who don’t already Like the Page. This is what viral means: having content reach people beyond the organization’s network.

Most people know how to Like and Comment, so here’s how to Share content and Tag organizations in posts.

Share Content:

  • You can Share content from your Newsfeed or you can visit their Page.
  • Find the post you would like to share and find the “share” button at the bottom of the post.
  • You can choose to “share now” which will put the post “as is” on your Timeline (your personal page) and you won’t have the ability to add your own status.

  • You can also choose “share” which will allow you to add a status and post onto your Timeline, your Facebook Business Page or a Facebook Group you belong to. It’s ideal to add a status asking for what you’d like . For example: “Please join me” or “Let me know if you’d like to attend”, etc.

  • Once you’ve added your status and chosen your destination, hit “post”.
Tag Organizations:

Facebook will generally auto suggest the right page, but if it doesn’t, it could mean you haven’t Liked the Page or they simply haven’t set up their Username properly.
