Keeping Up With Social Media Trends

Trends come and go, then come back again and go away again especially on social media.

So how can we keep up with the ever-changing social media trends?

Let’s break it down on some different channels.

We’ll start with Twitter

You can follow popular accounts and search hashtags through the For You or Trending page. Here, you can find all sorts of topics trending either by your location (if it’s turned on through your device settings) where you can see discussions trending in your geographical area, the people you follow, or by specific words you tweet out.

If you want to make it easier for yourself, you can search up trending topics in Sports, for example, if that’s something you’re interested in, and you are given the option to follow that topic so that the trending tweets in sports show up on your timeline. That way you won’t need to go to the For You page to see what’s trending in that subject.

Next, let’s talk about Facebook

You’re able to see trending topics by searching hashtags, looking at events to see which ones are popular or happening soon that you can also search by categories like Apparel, Home Goods, and Garden & Outdoor, to name a few. You can also join groups that talk about trending topics and then see what people are saying on those topics on different social media channels.

Let’s carry on with Instagram

Instagram’s Explore page provides content related to your likes, or again, by accounts you follow. The Explore page also allows you to watch stories, so you can see what people have been up to in the last 24 hours. Stickers on the Stories tool are also a great way to see which ones are currently in use on the platform so that you can use them and also show up on other Explore pages.

Another way is to look up a location and see what people are up to in different cities, especially during holidays and celebrations, like during Christmas and people attending or writing about Winter Festivals in the city, or during Thanksgiving where there are multiple funny memes that are recycled from previous years — they never get old.

Last but not least, let’s talk TikTok

The most popular audios and hashtags currently being used are displayed on the Discover Page. They’ll even display how many thousands or millions of people are using that sound and hashtag, so you’ll be able to determine how popular the one you want to use is.

Following the biggest creators on the app, who are also keeping up with the most popular dances, will also help you stay in the loop. But honestly, a few scrolls and you’ll be seeing the same dance with the same song over and over and over.

Ok, so let’s get social

To start keeping up with different trends and keeping track of all the various platforms, dedicate some time to get familiar with each channel.

PSA: Something that’s trending on one platform may not be trending on another, so it’s important to make sure you’re posting the trends to the platform they belong to, for maximum engagement (and so you don’t look like you’re the only one being weird if people don’t understand the trend 👀).

Soon you’ll be zooming through all your different platforms and trending hot topics in a few minutes a day. So with that, zoom away!
