Are you someone who:
A) Posts every day?
OR
B) Has to post in advance?
Well, while for some, posting on social media every day is the way to go, let us tell you how we roll.
What if we told you you could save time by batching your content and scheduling by using a content calendar?
And this is exactly how we do it! Let us break it down.
So, first of all, what is a content calendar?
A content calendar is a great way to organize your library of ideas as well as important dates. You can see all your content in one place and have that record of everything you post.
So to get started, you gotta brainstorm some ideas. Think of engaging, captivating, and relevant content that you could start posting on your socials. Write down all your ideas and start filtering which ones you’ll start posting in order.
You can resort to something digital like an app, the traditional paper + pen, or any other way you like to start organized – like a spreadsheet (which is what we like to use).
Google Sheets is a great way to keep a record of all of your information – it’s free, easy to use, customizable, and automatically saves everything in case you accidentally close the tab AND you can share the live document with a team so that there is no questioning if you have the most up-to-date version of the document (key reason why we use it and why we’re a Google Workspace Partner, get in touch for a discount code).
We start by creating a template that’s easy to reuse every year.
You start by brainstorming all the topics that work for your business and grouping them under a theme. This will make sure you’re covering topics evenly, or purposefully so that you can rank for keywords best. As you brainstorm you may decide to reorganize your themes, or add new ones as things come to you.
Then you move to the Overview tab, and plot working titles based on the themes, evenly distributing your topic so that you are evenly creating posts that will index for keywords.
We like to include dates, goals, events, promotions, blog titles, due dates for drafts, and keywords, to name a few. And you can choose what makes sense for your needs.
Once you have your Overview, you can plot the blog posts on the Quarter Planner and build your social content around your blog posts, so that your content builds momentum to an action. If you know you want to sell tickets in January, what blog posts and social posts in November and December will help educate your audience on making that ticket purchase in January.
By using a content calendar, you’ll be able to stay ahead of your posting schedule so that you’re not scrambling to find captions and photos and all that good stuff at the last minute. So if you’re someone who gets overwhelmed with this kinda thing, try using this method.
Having your posts done and scheduled for a week, a month, or even a few days in advance will help you stay organized, calmer, and happier.
